Road to HYROX — Week 5: The Week I Needed, Not the Week I Planned

Week 5 wasn’t perfect — and that’s exactly why it mattered.

I skipped a few workouts this week. Life got loud, my schedule got messy, and my body needed a little more recovery than usual. But instead of letting the week slip away, I locked in when it counted. I showed up for my end of week simulation, and what happened surprised me.

Not only did I complete the session — I leveled up.

This week’s simulation expanded from 4 stations to 5 total, adding the Ski Erg for the first time. And even with the added volume, I put up some of my best numbers yet.

This Week’s 5 Station Simulation

Stations:

• 1000m Run

• 1000m Ski Erg

• 1000m Run

• 1000m Row

• 1000m Run

• 80m Burpee Broad Jumps

• 1000m Run

• Farmers Carry

• 1000m Run

• 100 Wall Balls

Even with a few missed workouts, the engine showed up. The technique showed up. The mindset showed up.

Key Performance Highlights

Here’s where the work really spoke:

• SkiErg (1000m): 4:48

This was my first time adding the Ski Erg into the simulation — and I hit a sub 5-minute split. That’s a pretty strong benchmark for HYROX pacing.

• Wall Balls (100 reps): Under 10 minutes

This was a major breakthrough for me. Wall balls are one of the most humbling stations in HYROX, and dropping below the 10-minute mark showed me my real conditioning progress.

• Burpee Broad Jumps: Noticeable improvement

My rhythm was better, my transitions were cleaner, and I didn’t hit the same mental wall I’ve hit in previous weeks. This station is still brutal, but it’s no longer breaking me.

Even with the added station, I felt more controlled than I expected. That tells me something important: The foundation I’ve been building for five weeks is starting to hold.

Reflections: Progress Isn’t Linear — But It’s Real

This week reminded me of something I tell people all the time:

Consistency isn’t perfection — it’s persistence.

I didn’t hit every workout. I didn’t follow the plan perfectly. But I didn’t quit. And when it was time to test myself, I delivered.

HYROX is teaching me that progress shows up in the moments when you think you’ve fallen behind. It shows up when you push through doubt, fatigue, or frustration. It shows up when you choose to show up anyway.

Week 5 wasn’t clean, but it was powerful.
