Road to HYROX – Week 8: Home Is Where the Work Gets Done

Week 8 reminded me of something simple but powerful: home is where the heart is — and lately, it’s also where the work gets done.
I’ve been training consistently in my basement and out in my yard, and honestly, it’s become my sanctuary. No commute. No waiting for equipment. No distractions. Just me, the weights, the sandbag, the treadmill, and the commitment I made to myself months ago.
There’s something different about training at home. It’s personal. It’s quiet. It forces you to face yourself — your excuses, your habits, your discipline. And this week, that discipline showed up strong.
I decided to test myself with a compromised workout, the kind that forces your lungs, legs, and mindset to work together whether they want to or not. Here’s what it looked like:
400m treadmill run
40m sandbag lunges
400m treadmill run
30 box step‑ups
400m treadmill run
75m farmer’s carry
400m treadmill run
25 wall balls
Repeat for 5 rounds
By the end, I was drenched, breathing heavy, and feeling every muscle in my body — but I was also proud. This is the kind of work that builds HYROX athletes. This is the kind of work that builds confidence. This is the kind of work that reminds you why you started.
I’ll be sharing a video from this session, because it’s one thing to talk about the grind… it’s another thing to show it. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned on this journey, it’s that consistency beats perfection every single time.
Eight weeks down. The work continues. And home — my basement, my yard, my little training corner — is where I’m becoming the strongest version of myself.
